As you know time is fast approaching for the St Joesph Altar. Mark your calendars for Sunday, March 11, 2018. The Altar began centuries ago in Sicily, Italy. A severe famine in Sicily caused considerable suffering and starvation. Since the Catholic Church regards St Joesph as the family protector, the peasant farmers turned to him for help. The famine soon ended, and in gratitude, the farmers honored St Joseph by filling an altar with their most prized possession. "FOOD", Down through the years altars have been built for thanksgiving. We here at St Pius X feel that we have a lot to be thankful for.
The altar is a very beautiful and reverent spiritual offering. Offerings in honor of the Lord consist of fruit, vegetable, fish, bread, and grain. NO MEAT IS SERVED AT THE ALTAR because it is during Lent. The altar has 3 steps (for the Trinity).
The altar is open to the public and everyone is invited. We are anticipating a large crowd (about 400). Because of the time and the amount of work involved, we are asking for everyone's help. There are certain recipes that need to be prepared; cakes to be baked and cookies to be made. Workers are needed all day to prepare and serve the food. We need workers for everything and to help clean up. There is a place for everyone. of course, we always can use monetary donations. Sign up sheets and recipes will be in the Narthex of the church next weekend February 17th and 18th. PLEASE DON'T HESITATE TO SIGN UP TO HELP, WE NEED YOU!!!!
We will begin the day on March 11th with Mass at 11:00 am. Bishop Duca will perform the Blessing of the Altar after Mass, followed by the serving of the meal until 4:00 pm. Please invite all your family and friends to join us as we honor St Joseph. This is truly an inspiration for our Parish.
